Overcoming Depression
Scripture: Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are
crushed in spirit.”
Depression can feel like a deep, unending darkness, but scripture reminds us that God draws
near in our pain. He is a healer who understands our suffering and brings light into the darkest
places. When depression clouds our view of God, it’s important to remember that feelings don’t
define truth. God is still present, offering comfort and hope. Like Elijah, who faced despair under
a broom tree (1 Kings 19), we too can be vulnerable, but God sends strength through His Word,
His Spirit, and His people. As we lean into His promises, we find that God’s grace is sufficient (2
Corinthians 12:9), and in Him, there is renewal.
Reflection: In moments of deep sadness, can you recognize the subtle ways God is present in
your life? Ask God to reveal His comfort and peace to you.
Prayer Focus: Pray for God to lift the weight of depression, asking Him to bring His healing
presence into every area of emotional and mental pain. Ask for the strength to hold on to hope,
and for God to guide you to the right support systems in your journey to healing.
